Expedition travel is not about collecting numbers, capturing a quick post, or simply adding another stamp to a passport. It is about creating meaningful connections, gaining new perspectives, and embracing experiences that have the power to transform the way we see the world and ourselves. My Backyard
The Convent of Nossa Senhora do Bom Sucesso, founded in 1630 in the heart of Belém, Lisbon, was my first school. My middle school was the 17th-century Palácio dos Condes da Ribeira Grande, now home to a modern art gallery and a five-star hotel. Later, I studied at the Colégio do Espírito Santo in Évora, a jewel of Renaissance and Manueline architecture founded in the 16th century and home to the second-oldest university in Portugal.
Growing up surrounded by such history, culture, and tradition has been a true privilege. These experiences have shaped my appreciation for Portugal’s rich heritage and diverse landscapes. Having the opportunity to share what Portugal is all about is a pleasure. From its remarkable history and architecture to its exceptional cuisine and breathtaking natural beauty, Portugal has so much to offer.

My roots
Growing up in Belém, I was immersed in maritime history and often dreamed of exploring the oceans myself. On my way to school each day, I would pass the shoreline from which great sailors once departed for unknown and mysterious worlds. I often found myself captivated by the monasteries and monuments that stand as enduring reminders of Portugal's Age of Discovery.
Academic Background
For my university studies, I moved to Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage city in the heart of the Alentejo. One of Portugal’s oldest cities, Évora traces its origins back to Roman times. The medieval walls and historic center reflect more than two millennia of cultural and architectural heritage. Living there deepened my appreciation for the Alentejo region, whose vast landscapes, rich traditions, and distinctive montado cork oak forests rank among the places I most want to return when back in Portugal.
A Naturalist host back home
As a naturalist, one of my favorite places in Portugal is the Azores Archipelago. There, outstanding landscapes and abundant wildlife blend with a unique way of life shaped by the surrounding Atlantic Ocean. While Portugal has much to offer, from its rich history and remarkable architecture to its world-renowned gastronomy (THE PASTRIES!), the Azores remain a hidden gem: a largely unspoiled paradise where nature still takes center stage. Their dramatic volcanic scenery, lush green valleys, and deep connection to the sea make them one of the country's most extraordinary and lesser-known treasures.
